Lobsang Durney is a contemporary Chilean artist from Valparaiso, Chile, who currently resides in Barcelona, Spain.  In his work, Lobsang focuses on painting post-apocalyptic surrealist worlds, where he mixes realistic and imaginary subjects and storylines.

Lobsang’s work is uniquely cinematic, with each work having its own storyline, its context, protagonists and reality. His subjects are often biomechanical contraptions with images reminiscent of the Mad Max movie series.

I have always liked chess and each piece contains a universe of its own. As a game we know that it simulates combat, once this condition is transferred to the bishop, he is involved in the chaos that war generates. I use various visual parameters as a creative medium, the first and most representative is "out of scale", placing recognizable and sometimes everyday elements on a larger, large plane, one that generates human habitability. As an architect I combine the bishop piece in a building, with an anachronistic facade, this is another characteristic that I always try to paint in my paintings, where different architectural styles appear. This bishop has the exhausting effects of battle but still stands, although further in the background is a menacing enemy knight willing to avenge the death of his queen by the bishop himself.

Original Oil on Canvas:

Original, authentic, and unique artwork painted typically with linseed oil paints on cotton or linen canvas.
Our paintings are stretched on wooden stretcher bars, stapled on the back of the painting, and a wooden (poplar or maple) stained frame around it.  If the "Gallery Wrap" is specified, that means that there's no wooden frame, and the canvas is wrapped around the edges.
All paintings are shipped from our gallery in San Francisco with a certificate of authenticity, hanging nails, and are ready to hang on a wall.

Giclée Paper:

A reproduction of the original artwork on archival paper.

For all of our reproductions, we first professionally photograph original artwork with a high-resolution 45MP+ camera.  After color correction, they are printed on Hahnemuhle 100% cotton PhotoRag archival paper on state-of-the-art Canon 12-pigment printers.  Read more here
