      About Kjartan...

Kjartan Guðbrandsson is an Icelandic abstract freestyle artist.

Kjartan Guðbrandsson is one of the best-known fitness coaches in Iceland. He is an accomplished athlete who competed internationally in bodybuilding, powerlifting, fitness, shooting, weight and power training, and horse riding.

Kjartan’s work is reflective of the amazing world around him. Iceland is one of the youngest landmasses on the planet, a 25 million-year-old teenager. And maybe that’s why it’s full of exuberant energy of numerous waterfalls, lush green “50 shades of green” moss fields, incredible Moon-like landscapes with black sand beaches, red hot volcanoes ready to erupt at any moment, mysterious caves with icicle-shaped stalactites, deep blue crystalline glaciers, hot bubbly springs, and majestic Aurora Borealis in the arctic sky.

Encouraged by his family's long history of accomplished artists, Kjartan devoted himself to art during the Covid-19 pandemic.

      In His Own Words...

I am constantly rethinking who I am. A big part of my personality is learning something new. So, I’m not lazy and don’t like stagnating over the years. If the mind is like that, then the body follows the thought of always going forward and doing better.

I always knew I could paint. It just waited for me.

When COVID came, I had to put my job as a fitness trainer and life coach on hold. I moved to Spain and started painting.

My inspiration comes from my family. My great-grandfather was a visioner and assisted the most famous Icelandic painters of all time Jóhannes Sveinsson Kjarval. He cleared the path for Kjarval to move to England and learn to live from his work. I also have two great painters in my family: Magnús Kjartansson and Magdalena Margret Kjartansdottir.

I have sought inspiration from their work, and with my curiosity, which always gets me into the unknown.

I plan to devote more time to my art and move to Spain for part of the year. My passion for art is limitless, and time spent painting is time in eternity."
