Mid Century Modern Paintings

Mid-century modern paintings and prints from Hokkaido, Reykjavík, and Tbilisi. Kenichi Kuriyagawa's Hokkaido silkscreens — flat color, hard edges, forms cut down to silhouette — were made in the same decades the style takes its name from. Íris Kristmunds and Kjartan Guðbrandsson work in Scandinavian minimalism; George Abramidze paints in flat interlocking planes of pink, teal, and mustard.

The look pairs with mid-century furniture for the same reason it holds a wall on its own: restraint, clear structure, and a small number of colors doing a lot of work. Every piece here is either an original painting or a limited-edition print, framed in our San Francisco gallery before it ships.
