Art House SF welcomes Kenichi Kuriyagwa

Art House SF welcomes Kenichi Kuriyagwa

I'm pleased and honored to welcome Kenichi Kuriyagawa to our gallery.

Colorful landscape painting of lavender fields with mountains in the background, showcasing vibrant purple, green, and yellow hues.

He lived a long life as one of the most accomplished Japanese graphic designers in the 1960s. He designed a number of posters and graphics for Japan's first Olympic Games in Sapporo.  Kenichi passed away in 1999 at the age of 88.

Kenichi is from Japan's northernmost island, Hokkaido.

Handmade silkscreen print depicting a serene swamp on a remote island with mountains and vibrant flora.

While Kenichi's work is largely unknown in the US, it is truly unique.  His art is filled with the desire for the tranquility of post-war Japan on the one hand and, on the other, with the futurism of 1980s Japan.

You can preview several of his pieces in the gallery now and keep an eye out for his solo show later this year.
