Cristina Vera Aguilar, Biography

Cristina was born in Concepción, Chile, on May 13, 1970.


She is the granddaughter of the famous Chilean muralist Tomás Aguilar González and daughter of the sculptor, painter and writer María Luz Aguilar. Art, painting, sculpture runs in her family.

 

Her artistic talents were recognized very early on. In 1979, at the age of 9, she was selected to represent Chile in UNESCO international art competition. Cristina has been painting since then, for the last 40 years.

 

As a self-taught artist, she continuously improves her style and technique. She studied with several recognized Chilean artists over the years:

  • Gina Intveen, acrylic painting
  • Pilar Rios, spatula technique in acrylic
  • Eileen Kelly, Xylography and wood engraving
  • Álvaro Huenchuleo, oil painting in Grisaille technique.

 

In 2012, in response to the discovery of “Children of Llullaillaco", Cristina also started writing short stories. Children of Llullaillaco were mummies of Inca children found in the Andes in 1999.

 

Cristina Vera currently paints and continues to exhibit.  Her workshop is in San Pedro de la Paz, Concepción, Chile
